High Ham Preschool

Our preschool is nestled in the village of High Ham, near Langport, which is in the heart of the Somerset Levels. We are a registered charity and are managed by a parents’ committee as well as our excellent Preschool Manager, Bekki. Initially set up as a playgroup in 1992, we are now a thriving Preschool, in a single storey wooden building with an excellent and well designed outdoor area. Our staff team is very experienced and committed to supporting the children and their families. It is important to us that your child is happy and secure and makes good progress in their time at High Ham Preschool. We have good links with the local community, including the local school, which is on the same site.

We are proud to offer a Good setting with Outstanding Teaching and Learning; “All children make extremely good progress, relative to their starting points. Teaching is consistently excellent. Staff use every opportunity to challenge children very skilfully. ” (Ofsted 2018).

We are based on the grounds of High Ham Primary School, and our pre-school children come from High Ham and local villages and towns. Most of our children will continue on to attend High Ham Primary School.

We also provide a daily Breakfast Club, which is available from 7:30am, and an after school club, called Monkey Madness, which cares for children until 6pm. Both Breakfast Club and Monkey Madness can take children from 2 to 11 years old.

Our Aims

It is the aim of the pre-school to provide high quality care and education, to work in partnership with parents to help children to learn and develop and to offer a service that promotes equality and that values diversity.

Working towards the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum (EYFS) we support the children to access their learning through fun, engaging, stimulating and original activities. The children’s education is also tailored to suit them through individual planning, assessment and reflection from each child’s keyworker. Ultimately it is the ethos of the setting to learn through play in a safe and stimulating environment.

We look forward to sharing our experiences with your child and their family.  ‘By learning through play we have fun every day!’
